Microsoft is ending support of Windows 7 on January 14, 2020. The company has been pushing users towards an upgrade to Windows 10 and is ramping up that effort. When the cutoff happens, Win7 will stop receiving new features or security updates. This week, Microsoft announced it is now placing a full-screen prompt that warns users about the end of Windows 7. Microsoft is using the warning to tell users about the risk of continuing to use the platform once security support is ended. According to the company, the warning is appearing on the following Win7 versions:
Home Basic Home Premium Users with Extended Security Update (ESU) will not see the warning

It is worth noting in August Microsoft extended support of Windows 7 for enterprise users. Enterprise Agreement (EA) and Enterprise Subscription Agreement (EAS) customers subscribed to Windows 10 E5, Microsoft 365 E5, or Microsoft 365 E5 Security can now choose to receive Windows 7 Extended Security Updates for a year. For those customers that opt in, patches will be rolled out at no additional charge.
