This is the second time Forspoken has been delayed, so users will be waiting longer to see the benefits of DirectStorage in action. While it is possible another game launches with the software available, none have been announced so it seems unlikely. Forspoken was initially pegged for a May 25 launch, with Microsoft highlighting DirectStorage during a demo in March. However, it was then rescheduled to October 11 but is now looking for a January release. Something tells me we may get another delay and a spring, 2023 launch is most likely. That means gamers looking forward to Forspoken – formerly known as Project Athia – will need to wait for the action role-playing game longer than expected.

Also in March, Microsoft brought the Xbox DirectStorage API SDK to Windows 11. Part of the company’s Xbox Velocity Architecture, the API provides specific features to enhance gaming. This week, the first game demo using DirectStorage has been shared. In a previous blog post, Microsoft describes the API as the following: This public SDK release begins a new era of fast load times and detailed worlds in PC games by allowing developers to more fully utilize the speed of the latest storage devices. In September 2020, we announced DirectStorage would be coming to Windows, and after collecting feedback throughout our developer preview, we are making this API available to all of our partners to ship with their games.” Tip of the day: Did you know you can use Windowss built in antivirus Microsoft Defender also with scheduled scans?
