As reported by CNBC, Microsoft has brought in Tom McGuinness to foster relationships with partners in the healthcare industry. For example, he will work directly with health insurers and hospitals. McGuiness is a veteran of the heath industry so is suited to his position as a Microsoft Corporate Vice President. He previously worked with GE Healthcare as CEO and president of the company’s imaging business. “The job is so difficult for health-care professionals,” Deb Cupp, the company’s vice president of enterprise and commercial industries, told CNBC. ?So the timing couldn’t be better for this hire, and he’ll be diving in right away to orient us around what we can do to help.”
COVID-19 Help
His first actions with Microsoft will be to help the company navigate through the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. Microsoft has been on a push to help healthcare workers, including making its AccountGuard service available for free. AccountGuard was launched in August 2017. Available in Office 365, the service helps Microsoft Account holders running elections campaigns, in political committees, or politician staff. The tool provides more threat monitoring capabilities by regularly monitoring accounts for security breaches. “Our teams at Microsoft have also detected and responded to attacks targeting the healthcare sector in many countries, and we know they are coming from criminals and multiple nation-states. In addition, our threat intelligence teams have identified nation-state attacks against human rights organizations around the world for some time, both prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
