Baker has played an important role at Nintendo over the last decade. In December, he announced he was leaving the Japanese giant after 12 years. It was unclear at the time where he would be going, but today has explained the situation. During his time with Nintendo, Baker became and increasingly important figure. He has been heading the company’s indie game relations in recent years and thriving. Indeed, many of the indie titles available on the Switch were driven to the console by Baker. Nintendo fans will probably know Baker as the host of the company’s Nindies Showcase, which detailed indie titles available on Switch.
— Damon Baker (@DWBakes) December 21, 2018 Damon Baker has made the switch to Xbox, where he will now be Head of Portfolio. In this role, he will largely be doing the same things he did at Nintendo. That means he will work with second and third-party developers to seek titles to bring to Xbox One and beyond.
Future
As Microsoft is preparing the 9th generation of console with Project Scarlett next year, Baker’s appointment is as much for the future as it is the now. He will join an Xbox Team that is readying itself to tackle Sony in the next generation. Yesterday we reported Sony’s PS4 has doubled the sales of the Xbox One. Microsoft needs to strike back and snapping up talent from rivals may give the company an added boost.
