Starting with the update improvements, Microsoft says Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles now automatically detect when game updates are available. While the console has always done this, consoles will now find updates faster. Microsoft says this should result in a noticeable improvement when launching a game and in the game collection.
Secret Achievements
The big news in this update is Secret Achievements, which will be available across Xbox consoles. Specifically, Microsoft is adding an ability to reveal a secret achievement. If you are unfamiliar with Secret Achievements, they are hidden milestone unlockables that are a mystery until you unlock it. Of course, some games do not want to wait, which is why Microsoft is adding a reveal ability. The company points out this is for Xbox users who “do not mind spoilers”: “From within a game, open the guide and go to Game activity > Achievements. When you see a secret achievement, you can now reveal details like the title, achievement description, and Gamerscore. And after you peek, you can go back and hide it or continue to display the details.” While this tool is for Xbox achievements, it is not exclusive to the Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One. That is because achievements are also available on other platforms. So, the ability to reveal Secret Achievements is also coming to Windows, Game Bar on Windows, and the Xbox app for iOS and Android.
